11 year old Fil-Am gets a Golden Buzzer at America’s Got Talent from Judge Howie Mandel

"You are amongst champions. You show up and you lift the ceiling off this theater. That was your fight song and if I can do anything, I will do anything to help you win this fight," Mandel said seconds before he pressed the golden buzzer for Hale. The golden buzz will fast track her through the finals.

Hale received a standing ovation but Judge Mel B didn't seem to agree saying "you have an incredible voice, and you're like a firecracker" and added that the young singer should have put her own signature flare on the song but was teased by Judge Simon Cowell.

This is the second time that the young singer got a golden buzzer, the first was back in 2017 when she competed at the 12th Season of America’s Got Talent and placed 2nd at the finals.

Angelica Hale was born to Fil-Am James Hale and Eva Bolando, from Iligan City. Angelica is not your ordinary girl and she has a medical condition At the age of four, she contracted a severe bacterial pneumonia, causing septic shock and multiple organ failure including her kidneys. After spending a year and a half on dialysis, she received a life-saving kidney transplant from her mother Eva.

POKWANG, ANNE CURTIS, NADINE LUSTRE AND JM DE GUZMAN GETS FILM CRITICS NOD

Pinoy Rebyu released the results of their annual poll that chooses the best feature films, best performances and technical excellence for movies released in 2018. The 36 respondents, mainly film reviewers and bloggers unanimously voted "Oda sa Wala" as the Best Feature Film for 2018. Marietta Subong A.K.A. Pokwang topped the poll for best performance in a leading role for her stellar performance in the same movie as an old maid stuck in a town that long ceased to recognizer her existence. Therese Malvar ("Distance) edged out Arjo Atayde ("Buy Bust") for the best performance in a supporting role.

As expected, the top 20 best feature films is dominated by independent films, however it is noteworthy to mention that a few mainstream actors or shall I say popular stars like Anne Curtis ("Sid & Aya" and "Buy Bust") and Nadine Lustre ("Never Not Love Me") made the top 20 cut leaving their respective screen partners Dingdong Dantes and James Reid excluded on the list. Paolo Avelino's performance in "Goyo: Ang Batang General" failed to make it.but the film ranked 7th place. Sad to say, only a few films in the top 20 did well at the box-office and the rest were just confined to festival and micro-theater screenings and some never got released due to difficulty in booking for commercial run.

Here's the Top 20 List in 4 categories, detailed as under:

WILL LUIS AND JESSY TIE THE KNOT THIS YEAR?

Jessy Mendiola posted on her Instagram a video capturing her sweet moments with boyfriend Luis Manzano.  On the video, Luis  pointing at Jessy saying that she would "mother of my children."

Jessy posted this message on Insgtagram

Senyorita _jessy:
"This is my way of saying YES to new beginnings and to life’s endless surprises.  I have something new for you guys this 2019.  Get to know me more.  Stay tuned."

To watch the video please click on the this link:
I wonder what are those surprises for 2019, could it be that they will tie the not this year?  Luis' Mom Movie Queen and Lipa District Representative Vilma Santos can't wait for this event to happen and she's just too agog to have a grand child soon.  Luis is 37 while Jessy is only 26 so there's 11 year age gap which is somewhat similar to the 11 years age gap of Luis' mom Vilma Santos and step dad Senator Ralph Recto (Ate Vi being older at  66 while Ralph is 55).

2018 MISS UNIVERSE CATRIONA GRAY FORMALLY KICKS OFF MEDIA TOUR IN NEW YORK CITY

She's got to be one of the most popular Miss Universe ever.  The newly crowned Miss Universe appeared on popular American morning show Good Morning America and on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

She talked about her Mom who, according to Catriona, once dreamed of her winning the Miss Universe crown wearing a red dress and she actually won the Miss Universe title wearing a red dress.  She also talked about her passion for helping  under-privileged children living in impoverish areas of Metro Manila and is involved in an NGO project called "Young Focus Philippines."  If I am not mistaken this is also the same project and subject that she presented when she participated in Miss World two years ago.  Her video for Beauty With a Purpose was one of the Top 5 winners.

Catriona will be doing rounds on U.S. television shows and expect more interviews and appearances as she begin her reign as Miss Universe 2018.  Like her predecessors, she will also be travelling to Indonesia for TV commercial shoot.

Meanwhile, please watch this 5 minute video showing footage of her appearance on Good Morning America and Live with Kelly and Ryan.   Please click here to watch the video

WHAT'S NEW WITH MMFF?

The 10 day Metro Manila Film Festival has just been concluded and again Vice Ganda is lording it over at the box-office supremacy for the past 6 or 7 consecutive years.  Just like in previous years, there were reports that some entries were pulled out from theaters due to poor showing at the box-office.  There's nothing new about this as this happens every year but the good thing is that after the awards night  (held just a few days after the festival kicked off), the runaway winner "Rainbow's Sunset" boosted its ticket sales after it won major awards including best picture.

It's holiday season and obviously moviegoers would go for comedy and family oriented films. Millennials prefers the so called "hugot" genre and horror films, however only "Aurora" succeeded this year. "One Great Love" and "Otlum" are in the bottom 3 and are struggling to catch up.  The gay themed "Rainbow's Sunset" top-billed by octogenarians Eddie Garcia, Tony Mabesa and Gloria Romero started at the bottom but managed to pull up after it won the best picture award.  Some says Vice Ganda's entry this year "Fantastica" is probably his worst MMFF movie but nonetheless it still the second most watched movie of 2018  with a whopping 10 day gross of P480M,  next to the monster hit "The Hows of Us."  Trailing behind Fantasica is the Coco Martin-Vic Sotto tandem with P340M, followed by "Aurora" with P95M.

Here's the unofficial 10 day box-office ranking of MMFF entries according to our source.
Based on the box-office results and ranking above, approximately 70% of the total sales gross went to  "Fantastica" and "Jack Em Poy."  As reported some entries were pulled out from theaters in favor of the two blockbuster films but we can't blame theater owners, this is business after all.  Except perhaps "Aurora" and "Mary, Marry Me," all the other four entries  are struggling to reach their break-even point and return of investment but on a positive note, the total festival gross this year has exceeded 1 Billion Peso mark albeit only 4 films are performing well at the box-office.

Here's the full list of winners of MMFF 2018 Awards;

TOP 40 MOST VIEWED MUSIC & LYRIC VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE BY LOCAL ARTISTS -2018-19

My post about Top 40 most viewed music videos by local artists posted in April last year has been receiving some feedback from readers.  I apologize for not updating it on a regular basis as I am also busy with my work.  But nonetheless I'll always find time to update it whenever I can.  To make it more accurate, I decided to change the title of the post since a number of entries in the top  40 are not really music videos per se.  I'm referring to the new trends which has evolved during the past few years seeing the rise of lyric videos and live performance on Wish 107.5 bus that has become very popular and even getting more views than their corresponding official music videos.  Referring to the latter, I'm not sure if this is just a trend in the Philippines.  I guess by next update, I will have to separate the two areas from legitimate music videos.

Whatever it is, here's the top 40 most viewed music/lyric videos on YouTube by local artists. Just in case I missed some of your favorite videos, please feel free to notify us.

On top of the list is "Mundo" by fast rising band IV of Spades, winner of the recent MYX New Artist of the year award.  Taking the second spot is Morisette Amon's cover of "Secret Love Songs,"  followed by "Bakit Ba Ikaw" by Anthnoy Pangilinan.  Interestingly enough, all the first three were all live performance on Wish 107.3 Bus.  Inigo Pascual "Dahil Sa'Yo" which stayed  no. 1 for several months slipped to no. 4 and 5th place is Bugoy Drillon's cover of "One Day," another live performance on Wish 107.5.  Obviously the biggest gainers are "Mundo" and "One Day" which climb all   the way to the top 5 and JK Labajo's "Buwan" which was released just 3 months ago climbed to no. 15.  It is also noteworthy to mention that "Pyramid" by Charice is still in the top 40 and Darren Espanto's version of "Dying Inside to hold You" stays on top 10.

Here's the break down of Top 40 Most Viewed Music/Lyric Videos by Filipino Artists on YouTube as of 01 January 2019.
