Young Gilas Team is going to Argentina for FIBA U17 World Cup in July after beating Japan in their quarterfinals match at the Foshan Lingnan Mingzhu Gymnasium on Friday, April 6. It was a heartbreaking loss for Japan who have won all their 3 previous matches. Kai Sotto led the Filipino squad with 28 points but it was Chris Calimag who scored the winning shot that broke the tie (70 all) with less than 24 seconds.
The Philippines will face China tomorrow for the semi-finals. Though China is highly favored to win, what matters most is that the Philippines is now guaranteed a spot in the FIBA U17 World Cup. Australia will meet neighbor New Zealand in a do or die match tomorrow which will determine who will go to the finals on Sunday
